On the front line

Just recently I have started a new job. I am working as a sales representative, out on the road, for one of Australia's largest physical therapy supply companies. It been quite a few years, maybe ten, since I have been in a front line position like this, day after day (well to be honest it's only 2 1/2 days a week) out knocking on doors to sell the message and products.
I am doing one other job for them before I actually get out on the road. That is proof reading their website. There are quite a few typos on it, and I am very particular about these things. One would not publish a book with this many typos and often the first exposure someone may have to the company is their website. As the old saying goes, you only get one chance to make a first impression. So I think it is important that it is right.
There are some obvious parallels to the Church here. The Church has invested a lot of resources in to building up what is most likely the best online presence of any Church on the planet.
It is also very important to have the "troops" out on the front line. Not just any troops, but good quality people, well prepared and able to teach the message. And as well as having good young guns out there with plently of energy and enthusiasm, it is also very important to have older more experienced people out there as well.
My new employer has neglected having a significant on the road salesforce for a few years, but just over the last couple of years has invested more in it. I guess that I am the older more experienced person coming in amongst the young guns now.
Likewise, I am looking forward to getting out "on the road" again as a senior missionary, with my wife as my companion. It is still a few years before I will be able to do that, but it is good to look forward to the possibility of getting out and teaching the Gospel again, maybe in about ten years time I think.
