Australia Day

Today is a National Public Holiday - Australia Day. I am not sure exactly what it is for, but I do see a few people driving around with Aussie flags on their cars. Maybe I am meant to feel more patriotic today than other days? I don't feel any more patriotic today than any other day.

I think the most patriotic feelings I have ever had came upon me while I was in New Zealand for 18 months serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I was at a Church member's home one evening and we were singing songs and the host started singing Waltzing Matilda. I really felt homesick at that time.

Australia is a great place to live - no question about it. How long it will remain that way I don't know. I hope for my children's sake that it doesn't change to much in future years, but I fear it will. Perhaps all I can do is make my own little piece of Australia a great place to live?

Miriam and Taylor were finally able to get married in the Melbourne Temple on Saturday 31st August 2021 after two previously cancelled dates, due to Covid 19 related lockdowns. Orginally they had planned to have about 88 people at the wedding but under the restrictions they were only allowed to have 50 there. We only had nine days between lockdowns in which they could get married! Cliff Slade - my talk for Cliff at his funeral - Clifford Elliot Slade 20th November 1952 - 3rd December 2021

I think I might preface my remarks about Cliff today by briefly relating what has transpired over the last few months. Some of you might have heard Cliff refer to me as Muzz, and we did a lot of things together. Late June we got bad backs together. We both had MRI’s we both had cortisone shots, and physio treatment, and I started to get better, but Cliff seemed to be taking longer to get better. In fact, he seemed to be getting worse. He was really struggling with the pain. It didn’t matter what he did, he was in pain. He was around our place one day and he sat down trying the special back support I had bought which I thought was fantastic. It didn’t ease his pain. I had also been given an inversion table, and that was really helping me. Cliff wanted to try that too. He got on it and laid back a little bit and it seemed to increase his pain. Post Mission report No 3 - Life in Lara - up to 17 Dec 2023

Two weeks have flown by since my last entry. Maybe this little video sums up how I've been feeling. I feel overwhelmed with physical things and underwhelmed spiritually. Painting, painting, painting. This week will be mowing, mowing, mowing as well as painting, painting, painting. Then a short reprieve for Christmas before commencing more work at Anglesea. One little highlight was getting our nativity scene up for Christmas and just survived the gale force winds we had last week. I've been kiting a bit with Andre at North Shore in Geelong. Went to Melbourne on Thursday and bought a new foil board from Ian Mills. Tried it out at Torquay very briefly on Friday afternoon, before going to the Stonker Christmas/Start of Summer party. Went to watch Jiah play basketball yesterday afternoon, then had lunch with Sue Fenner-Smith afterwards. Nice day! Church was good today, 17 December 2023. My old mate Nick Grbin spoke, as well as my other old mate David Cowan. Both great talks.
